Why Pokémon Vending Machines Near You Are Suddenly Vanishing: the Reseller Chaos Behind the Pullout
By Sarah Jenkins
Q1: Why are Pokémon vending machines disappearing from local grocery stores?
Retailers like Safeway and Fred Meyer requested their removal due to persistent issues with resellers camping in storefronts, harassing staff, fighting over inventory, and blocking entryways. The small revenue share generated by the machines was not worth the security liabilities.
Q2: Does the official Pokémon TCG kiosk locator show which machines are powered off?
No. The official locator often shows kiosks as active long after store managers have physically pulled the plug or turned off power. If you are traveling to a specific machine, call the grocery customer service desk beforehand to confirm the kiosk is actually operational.
Q3: Are all Pokémon Center kiosks being permanently scrapped?
The Pokémon Company has not announced a full cancellation of the program. However, distribution is shifting away from unmonitored grocery store foyers toward secured locations like enclosed shopping malls, convention centers, and major transit hubs where dedicated security teams can control queues.
