Who Is Shahid King Bolsen? Everything to Know About the American Blogger
Freed from prison, Bolsen did not retire into private life. He relocated to Istanbul, Turkey, and leaned heavily into political propaganda during the regional fallout from the 2013 Egyptian political crisis.
In early 2015, operating under the brand "Popular Resistance," Bolsen used YouTube videos, Facebook groups, and Twitter feeds to publish target packages against Western commercial interests in Egypt. He argued that street clashes with armed police were tactically ineffective. Instead, he urged followers to hit Egypt's financial system:
- Multi-national energy conglomerates operating offshore and terrestrial pipelines
- Global banking franchises, including branches of HSBC and Citibank
- Western fast-food chains like KFC, Pizza Hut, and McDonald's
- Mobile telecommunications infrastructure run by European operators
Bolsen framed this not as terrorism, but as legitimate anti-imperialist economic disruption designed to bleed the state's investment backing. The results were immediate and destructive. Small-scale improvised explosive devices and arson attacks hit dozens of commercial storefronts and corporate offices across Cairo and Alexandria. Egyptian security services named Bolsen an accessory to violence, demanding his extradition from Turkey.
