Darren Watkins Jr. was still carving out his lane on YouTube back in 2020. His broadcasts relied on unfiltered, highly animated reactions to competitive games, primarily NBA 2K and Epic Games' battle royale juggernaut, Fortnite. During one routine matchmaking session, Watkins teamed up with a squeaky-voiced kid using the handle Droptics. The younger player realized quickly that he was sharing a lobby with a growing creator and launched into a high-pressure pitch for a gifted cosmetic skin.

Watkins hesitated, pressing the kid on why he deserved free items over anyone else in chat. What followed became internet folklore. Droptics blurted out, "Please Speed, I need this. My mom is kinda homeless." The bizarre phrasing, suggesting someone could be partially without a home, froze Watkins in utter disbelief. He erupted in his signature fashion, alternating between screaming at the absurdity of the claim and interrogating the logic of prioritizing Fortnite skins during a family housing crisis. The comedic timing was accidental, raw, and impossible to script.
