The evolution from a scratchpad doodle to institutional internet lore highlights how drastically digital attribution changed over twelve years. The table below traces the critical shifts in the meme's lifecycle and ownership status.
| Phase & Era | Visual Style | Primary Platform Ecosystem | Attribution Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Underground Origin(2014, 2016) | Raw MS Paint lines, stick-figure father with cigar, anime VR headset gag | Anonymous image boards, niche gaming forums, early Reddit | Completely anonymous; treated as public internet folklore |
| Dormant Remake Era(2017, 2019) | Occasional redraws, pixel art tributes, early format remixes | Tumblr, Twitter/X, specialized webcomic communities | Source disputed; misattributed to several defunct webcomic blogs |
| Wojak Mass Explosion(2020, 2023) | Chad / Wojak hybrid characters, 3D animated renders, video voiceovers | YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels, r/memes | Documented by Know Your Meme as "Author Unknown" |
| Identity Resolution(2026) | Original layered raster files presented alongside high-definition video essays | Short-form TikTok video, corroborated by tech reporting outlets | Formally claimed and authenticated via layered files and early logs |
