Shopping Local Vs. Online: Does Strobler Home Furnishings Deliver Real Value?
By James H. Sterling
Q1: What separates Strobler Home Furnishings from commercial chain stores?
Strobler operates an independent showroom focused on bench-made custom furniture lines, domestic hardwood manufacturing, and expansive fabric libraries. Rather than selling mass-produced, flat-pack goods through corporate call centers, they provide on-staff interior designers who coordinate in-home consultations, custom orders, and proprietary delivery teams.
Q2: How do in-home design fees work when shopping at an independent boutique?
Fee structures vary across projects, but boutique showrooms typically credit upfront design retainers directly toward subsequent furniture orders. This approach provides professional spatial planning, fabric pairing, and measuring services without the separate hourly fees charged by standalone design firms.
Q3: Does custom upholstery fabric require significantly longer lead times?
Tailored furniture orders generally take 8 to 16 weeks depending on fabric availability and production schedules at regional workshops. While slower than flat-pack retail, this lead time delivers precise fabric treatments, frame adjustments, and cushion densities tailored to your household's requirements.
Q4: Why does eight-way hand-tied spring construction command a premium?
Eight-way hand-tied systems require skilled craftspeople to lash individual steel coil springs to the frame webbing at eight separate junctures using high-tensile twine. This design distributes sitting weight evenly across the entire frame, eliminating isolated sagging and extending cushion life far beyond standard sinuous drop-in wire systems.
