Gsh on the Bears Uniform: Close-up Details, Placement, and Evolution
Purists often track how historic elements translate onto non-standard uniforms. The Bears have traditionally been protective of their aesthetic, rarely diverging into experimental styles. When alternates appear, the left sleeve typography gets special handling.
On the fan-favorite orange alternate jersey, originally reintroduced in 2005 and maintained across subsequent uniform rotations, the letters appear in dark navy, outlined in crisp white. On the franchise's all-navy color-rush style sets, the design team retained the standard sleeve detailing to maintain contrast.
The only real exception involves historical accuracy. When Chicago wears true throwback uniforms, such as the 1936 tribute uniforms featuring horizontal alternating stripes and canvas-colored pants, the "GSH" lettering is deliberately absent. Because George Halas was actively coaching and playing during the 1930s, including a posthumous 1984 tribute on a 1936 replica would create a historical contradiction. The franchise chooses period authenticity over modern brand markings for those rare throwback games.
