What Happened with Anya Lacey at Starbucks? the Viral Video and Rumors Explained
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
When online backlash reached a fever pitch, clarity finally arrived from verified accounts. Anya Lacey addressed the rumors directly in a clarifying story and live stream Q&A. She explained that she had never had an aggressive confrontation with any retail worker, expressing bewilderment at how an ordinary morning iced drink pickup transformed into an internet villain narrative.
"People were sending me death threats over audio that wasn't even mine," Lacey noted during a live broadcast addressing the confusion. She pointed directly to the spliced audio file that had circulated independently on Reddit and TikTok since late 2023. Service industry workers active in online barista forums also chimed in. Several Starbucks store partners pointed out that the drive-thru layout shown in the spliced audio clip bore zero physical resemblance to the store visible in Lacey's genuine video.
