Guitarists drove the initial online explosion, but multi-instrumentalists quickly adopted the track for keyboard accompaniment. Keyboard players face a distinct challenge: translating the chime of open steel strings without sounding muddy in the mid-register.

To recreate the track’s airy quality on keys, keyboardists avoid heavy root-position triads. Instead, optimal piano voicings spread the notes wide across both hands. The left hand outlines tenths in the bass, while the right hand suspends seconds and fourths, mirroring the open drone strings of the acoustic guitar. This method leaves ample acoustic space in the 500 Hz to 1.5 kHz range, allowing the lead singer’s delivery to cut through cleanly.

For live ensembles, building a balanced vocal lead sheet requires clear annotations for dynamic peaks. Marking the transition from fingerpicked arpeggios in the verse to full, resonant barre chord variations during the bridge keeps both players locked into the same emotional arc. Without those dynamics, the repetitive progression risks sounding monotonous during prolonged live sets.
