Why Shoppers Are Ditching Strappy Footwear for Skechers Hands-Free Slip-in Sandals
Porting hands-free step-in design technology from closed-toe sneakers into open sandals presented a distinct mechanical challenge. In standard athletic shoes, the upper canvas wraps the entire foot, holding the heel collar steady against downforce. Sandals lack that perimeter cage. If the rear structure collapses, the shoe becomes a frustrating tripping hazard.
The design team answered that problem by molding a reinforced, cupped heel structure directly into the rear footbed. The shoe uses a specialized spring-back collar that guides the calcaneus into place without folding beneath body weight. You drop your foot straight in, the collar yields momentarily, and then it snaps smoothly behind the heel bone.
Simultaneously, the upper relies on relaxed fit sandals architecture. By widening the forefoot zone and pairing it with stretch-knit bands, the shoe eliminates the hotspots typical of rigid leather slides. Your foot stays anchored without needing a webbed nylon harness cranked down to the bone.
