Why Lord Escanor's Iconic Line Is Trending Again Across Social Media
The moment arrived in July 2016 within the pages of Weekly Shōnen Magazine when Nakaba Suzuki published Manga Chapter 186, titled "Pride vs. Love." The Demon Clan’s elite vanguard, the Ten Commandments, had brought Britannia to its knees. Central to their dominance was Estarossa, bearer of the Commandment of Love, an innate magical curse that rendered completely paralyzed anyone who harbored even an ounce of hatred or malice in his presence. Veteran Holy Knights fell to their knees. Powerful combatants could not raise an arm.
Escanor simply walked forward. Step by measured step, his polished gold armor creaked under swelling muscle mass as he approached Estarossa without slowing down. When the demon asked why the curse failed to bind him, the Lion's Sin of Pride delivered his opening philosophical volley: "Why should I bear hatred toward someone who is obviously weaker than myself? All I feel toward you is pity."
The exchange escalated when Estarossa appeared to land a decisive blow, engulfing the warrior’s magical mini-sun in a shroud of pitch-black demon fire known as Blackout. Estarossa declared victory, assuming the solar energy was smothered. Escanor’s instant, unbothered rebuttal turned conventional shōnen combat logic on its head. He didn't scream through clenched teeth or pull power from the memory of fallen comrades. Instead, he coolly questioned who gave his opponent permission to dictate reality.
