Why Is Spongebob Taking over Tiktok? the Viral Ice Spice and Madonna Craze Explained
By Alexander Ross
Q1: What is the exact SpongeBob song sampled in the viral TikTok trend?
The viral sound combines elements of Ice Spice's rhythmic cadence with audio motifs lifted directly from the classic SpongeBob SquarePants soundtrack, notably Hawaiian guitar slides composed by Sage Guyton and Jeremy Wakefield, set against syncopated Brooklyn drill drums.
Q2: Why did Madonna's TikTok video cause such a widespread reaction?
Madonna's video caught wildfire because it juxtaposed a foundational pop icon with cutting-edge Gen Z internet choreography. Performing the energetic dance alongside her 29-year-old partner showcased her ongoing interest in platform-native trends, driving massive cross-generational engagement and media coverage from major outlets.
Q3: Is the SpongeBob dance trend safe from copyright takedowns?
Fair-use parodies and transformative user remixes frequently circulate on video platforms under blanket music licensing arrangements. While rights holders like Paramount and music publishers occasionally restrict commercial uses of their intellectual property, transformative dance audio snippets typically thrive within platform parameters unless formal publisher strikes are filed.
