Why Bible Verses About Strength Are Surging Across the Military and Public Square

Everything you need to know about Why Bible Verses About Strength Are Surging Across the Military and Public Square, including in-depth facts.

Q1: Why were Bible verses temporarily banned from military dog tags?
The Department of Defense did not ban Bible verses on personal items. Instead, trademark offices denied commercial licenses that placed official military branch seals on the same product alongside scripture, citing concerns that combining government trademarks with religious text suggested official endorsement.

Q2: What did the December 2025 legal settlement change?
The settlement allowed private manufacturers like Shields of Strength to resume producing items featuring both military trademarks and scripture. In exchange, products must include clear disclaimers stating that the branch insignia does not constitute government endorsement of the religious message.

Q3: Which Bible verses about strength are most popular among service members?
Joshua 1:9 and Philippians 4:13 are the most frequently requested texts, followed by Psalm 23:4, Psalm 91, and Isaiah 40:31. These passages emphasize personal courage, mental endurance, and protection during prolonged danger.

Q4: Can service members still wear standard military issue dog tags alongside religious tags?
Yes. Official Department of Defense identification tags, which contain name, serial number, blood type, and optional religious preference, are worn as standard issue. Commemorative items, including Shields of Strength tags, are worn on the same chain or kept as personal pocket items in accordance with uniform regulations.
