Who Is Everly Bear Kiedis? Inside Anthony Kiedis's Bond with His Grown-up Son
Inevitably, children of iconic rock musicians face questions regarding their own creative path. While Everly has not released a solo record or signed with an agency, he holds an official credit on a major studio album. During the recording sessions for the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2016 LP The Getaway, producer Danger Mouse invited the eight-year-old into the vocal booth.
Everly sang background lines on the expansive track "Dreams of a Samurai." Anthony later recalled in radio interviews that Everly picked up the pitch effortlessly. The boy did not view the studio as an intimidating cathedral of commercial art. To him, it was simply the workspace where his dad and "Uncle Flea" (bassist Michael Balzary) jammed on bass grooves.
Despite displaying a natural ear, Everly was never pushed onto the stage. Anthony made sure Everly understood that creative expression should come from internal desire rather than paternal expectation. Friends of the family note that Everly enjoys playing instruments casually, but he also spends considerable time pursuing visual arts, skateboarding, and fashion design.
