Who Appeared in Nature Boy? the Full Documentary Cast and Biggest Reveals
Director Rory Karpf did not design the film as a promotional sizzle reel. Having previously directed the Dale Earnhardt documentary Dale and the 30 for 30 entry I Hate Christian Laettner, Karpf understood sports antiheroes. He spent over 16 months tracking Flair down, recording more than 20 hours of primary sit-downs with the Nature Boy himself.
Karpf challenged wrestling's long habit of myth-making. Instead of letting Flair glide through his familiar punchlines about limousines and rolexes, the director questioned his subject on bar tabs, divorces, and fatherhood. The production gathered archival footage from Jim Crockett Promotions, World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), pairing it with hand-drawn animation to illustrate off-camera brawls and plane crashes where no cameras were present.
The director's greatest accomplishment was getting active WWE performers to speak without their usual corporate polish. Karpf created an environment where legendary stars felt free to analyze Flair's psychology rather than promote an upcoming pay-per-view match.
