Before the digital edition lands on streaming servers, audiences still have limited opportunities to view the production live. The play first made waves in December 2023 at London’s Phoenix Theatre, directed by Stephen Daldry and co-directed by Justin Martin. The West End staging became an immediate commercial smash, regularly selling out its 1,000-seat house at premium ticket prices ranging from £35 to over £175.
Following its British box office success, the production transferred across the Atlantic, anchoring a massive Broadway run that raised the technical stakes even higher. The Broadway iteration served as the primary set for the streaming recording. In June 2026, Netflix and the creative team announced that The First Shadow was preparing for "One Last Run," signaling the scheduled conclusion of its open-ended commercial runs on both sides of the Atlantic to clear the runway for the proshot's streaming debut.
