When Is Domingo De Ramos 2026? All Your Holy Week Questions Answered
By Sarah Jenkins
Q1: What exact day is Domingo de Ramos in 2026?
A1: Domingo de Ramos falls on Sunday, March 29, 2026. It takes place exactly one week prior to Easter Sunday.
Q2: Does Domingo de Ramos mark the absolute end of Lent?
A2: No. While it begins the final week of spiritual preparation, the Lenten season liturgically concludes on the evening of Holy Thursday (April 2, 2026), immediately before the celebration of the Mass of the Lord's Supper begins the Paschal Triduum.
Q3: Why do the dates for Domingo de Ramos change every year?
A3: Palm Sunday changes annually because Easter is tied to the lunar cycle. Easter falls on the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon following the vernal equinox. When Easter shifts, all connected observances, including Ash Wednesday and Domingo de Ramos, shift accordingly.
Q4: What should attendees bring to Mass on Domingo de Ramos?
A4: Most Catholic and mainline Protestant parishes provide fresh palm branches directly to churchgoers at the church doors. However, many attendees in Spain and Latin America bring elaborate, woven palm fronds, olive branches, or laurel sprigs purchased from local street artisans for the formal blessing.
