A suitcase must pack efficiently to earn space in an overhead compartment. The interior relies on a signature interior compression pad, buckled down with flat woven nylon straps to squash bulky clothing.
We packed five days of winter layers into the Away Bigger Carry-On, including heavy denim, a wool sweater, and a secondary pair of boots. The compression system works through mechanical leverage. Cinching the dual straps flattened the load by 1.8 inches, allowing the clamshell halves to close without stressing the primary external zipper.
Fit issues arise when flyers encounter regional aircraft. While standard mainline flights swallow the Bigger Carry-On without resistance, passengers facing Bombardier CRJ-700 or Embraer 175 regional jets will fail strict overhead bin compliance sizers. For regional routes, the standard-sized carry-on remains the safer investment, particularly when hardside luggage deals bring both models down to comparable prices.
