By Maya Lin-Takahashi

| Attribute | Commercial Tobacco | Herbal Prop Cigarettes | Electronic / Vapor Props |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active Ingredients | Nicotine, cured tobacco leaf, additives | Marshmallow leaf, rose petals, clover | Vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol |
| On-Set Legality | Banned on indoor US union sets | Standard union-approved substitute | Allowed conditionally under local rules |
| Visual Density | Thin blue-gray smoke | Thick white smoke, camera-friendly | Heavy vapor, dissipates too rapidly |
| Performer Toll (Take 15+) | Nicotine sickness, elevated heart rate | Severe throat irritation, carbon monoxide headache | Mild airway dryness, vocal fatigue |
