Visiting Murphy's Wagon Wheel in Hastings, Ne: Hours, Rooftop Access, and Local Lore

Preserving heritage does not mean freezing a property in amber. In mid-2022, ownership executed one of the most substantial structural shifts in recent downtown Hastings history by introducing a complete rooftop bar.
Downtown Hastings features remarkable early-20th-century brick architecture, yet vertical outdoor dining had historically remained an untapped concept throughout the city center. Building above a classic tavern structure presented substantial logistical hurdles, requiring structural reinforcements to accommodate weather-proof decking, security railings, integrated draft lines, and custom patio seating.
When the rooftop opened, it altered the weekend rhythm of downtown Hastings nightlife. Instead of staying tucked inside low-lit booths, patrons could carry craft beers upstairs to catch sunset views stretching past the Adams County Courthouse and neighboring brick parapets. The rooftop turned Murphy's Wagon Wheel into a flexible, dual-concept destination: an authentic, no-frills neighborhood dive downstairs, and a breezy, open-sky lounge up top.
