Trevor Doorstep Animation Explained: Everything You Need to Know
Credit for the animation belongs squarely to independent animator Marcus Vance (online handle @VanceDraws), supported by sound designer Chloe Nguyen. While algorithmic aggregators on TikTok routinely scrub artist watermarks to farm engagement, Vance published the original WIP (work in progress) keyframes to his social accounts in mid-January 2026.
Vance utilized a hybrid digital 2D pipeline:
- Sketched in Storyboarder at 12 frames per second (fps) on twos to dial in comedic pauses.
- Drawn directly in TVPaint Animation 12 to maintain a loose, hand-inked line quality with jitter.
- Rendered inside Blender using Grease Pencil tools, layering flat 2D vector art over a 3D isometric porch asset. This technique produced dynamic shadow shifts as Trevor sways during his speech.
- Mastered in Reaper with high-pass filters to replicate the tinny compression of an entry-level smart doorbell camera.
The entire production cost roughly $450 in direct software licensing and freelance audio mixing, completed over sixteen working days.
