The Ultimate Guide to the Flintstones Theme Song: Lyrics, Meaning, and Trivia
By Alexander Ross
Generations of viewers can belt out the opening verse on command, but the complete television arrangement features distinct opening and closing credit sequences. The opening set the scene in Bedrock, introducing Fred Flintstone, his wife Wilma, and their neighbors Barney Rubble and Betty. The closing credits shifted the tone toward a late-night domestic comedy, following Fred’s frantic efforts to put the saber-toothed cat, Baby Puss, out for the night.
The official opening lyrics:
Flintstones, meet the Flintstones,
They’re the modern Stone Age family.
From the town of Bedrock,
They’re a page right out of history.
Let’s ride with the family down the street,
Through the courtesy of Fred’s two feet.
When you’re with the Flintstones,
Have a yabba-dabba-doo time,
A dabba-doo time,
We’ll have a gay old time!
The official closing lyrics:
Flintstones, meet the Flintstones,
They’re the modern Stone Age family.
From the town of Bedrock,
They’re a page right out of history.
Someday, maybe Fred will win the fight,
Then that cat will stay out for the night.
When you’re with the Flintstones,
Have a yabba-dabba-doo time,
A dabba-doo time,
We’ll have a gay old time!
Wilma!
