The Ultimate 2025 Studio Ghibli Christmas Advent Calendar & Holiday Gift Guide
By Robert Thorne
Q1: Has Studio Ghibli ever officially released a holiday advent calendar?
A1: No. Studio Ghibli and their official retail distributor, Benelic (Donguri Kyowakoku), have never produced, licensed, or sold an official holiday advent calendar. All pre-packaged sets advertised online are unauthorized counterfeit products.
Q2: Why are there so many video reviews of Ghibli advent calendars on TikTok and Instagram?
A2: Most viral unboxing clips use stolen clips of custom DIY calendars made by individual collectors, or they feature paid influencers unboxing free promotional samples supplied by dropshipping operations. The actual items delivered to paying customers rarely match the promotional videos.
Q3: Where can I buy authentic Studio Ghibli holiday gifts safely?
A3: Purchase directly from licensed Japanese retailers using proxy services (such as Donguri Sora via Buyee), or buy from verified international retailers including Kinokuniya, PlazaJapan, AmiAmi, and official museum partner stores. Look for the registered Studio Ghibli copyright mark on all packaging.
Q4: What should I do if I already ordered a bootleg calendar from a social media ad?
A4: Document the purchase immediately by taking screenshots of the product listing, confirmation emails, and the tracking information. If the delivered item does not match the advertised product, or fails to arrive, file a formal chargeback request with your credit card company or PayPal, citing counterfeit merchandise or misrepresentation.
