The Origin of the 'Conquest Behind Oliver' Meme: Visual Breakdown and Context
By Chloe Bennett
The meme broke containment beyond comic fandom when sports and pop culture communities repurposed the frame. Sports commentators on X applied Conquest to towering NBA stars. One popular variation documented on Know Your Meme, titled "how wemby be moving," photoshopped Victor Wembanyama's wingspan across Oliver's path during defensive transitions, capturing how small veteran guards look under the rim.
Gaming circles adopted the image to capture sudden difficulty spikes. Elden Ring and tactical shooter communities used Oliver to represent low-level players stumbling blindly into high-level boss zones. The emotional core remains identical across every permutation: Oliver symbolizes total, naive ignorance, while Conquest represents the crushing consequences about to land on his shoulders.
