The Complete Will Smith Hockey Guide: Contract, Draft Profile, and Future
Rather than jumping straight to the professional ranks, Smith committed to Boston College for the 2023, 2024 season. Alongside Leonard and Perreault, he formed the most potent offensive unit in collegiate hockey. Smith paced all NCAA Division I skaters with 25 goals and 46 assists, driving the Eagles to a Hockey East title and a spot in the national championship game. His 71 points marked the highest single-season scoring total by an NCAA freshman since 1992, 1993.
His international resume expanded during that same collegiate season. Smith took on key secondary-scoring duties for the United States at the 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, registering nine points in seven games en route to another gold medal. He capped the year with a roster spot on the senior U.S. Men’s National Team at the IIHF World Championship in Czechia, holding his own against active NHL talent and proving his processing speed translated against seasoned professional checkers.
