The Complete Guide to Percy Jackson Author Rick Riordan: Books in Order, New Series, and Screen Shows
By Marcus Vance
Q1: What is the best reading order for a beginner entering the Riordanverse?
A1: Start strictly with the original five books of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, beginning with The Lightning Thief. Once finished, move directly to The Heroes of Olympus series (starting with The Lost Hero). Only after completing those should you tackle side projects like The Kane Chronicles or move forward into The Trials of Apollo.
Q2: Is Rick Riordan writing another mainline Percy Jackson series?
A2: Riordan has committed to completing the Senior Year trilogy, which wraps up Percy's quest for three college recommendation letters. While he continues to publish standalone projects, such as his 2023 collaboration with Mark Oshiro, The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, he has not announced any new sprawling five-book epics centered on Percy.
Q3: Are The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase part of the same shared world as Percy Jackson?
A3: Yes. Percy Jackson crosses paths directly with Carter and Sadie Kane in the graphic novel/short-story collection Demigods & Magicians. Additionally, Magnus Chase is the direct biological cousin of Annabeth Chase, and Annabeth appears in multiple scenes throughout the Magnus Chase trilogy, firmly linking the Norse and Greek worlds in the same universe.
