Disney's track record with animated-to-live-action remakes shows that fidelity to character essence matters far more than shot-for-shot replication. Where adaptations like The Jungle Book and Aladdin found critical traction was in capturing the underlying spirit of their protagonists while allowing the actors room to interpret the roles organically.
Eugene Fitzherbert is a character defined by transition. He starts out desperate to be the untouchable outlaw on a royal wanted poster, only to discover that being Eugene Fitzherbert is far more fulfilling than remaining Flynn Rider. If the creative team prioritizes that emotional arc alongside the physical comedic timing, the 2028 live-action remake has every opportunity to deliver a performance worthy of the original smolder.
