Is on My Block Season 5 Actually Happening? the Truth Behind the Netflix Rumors
By Marcus Vance
Netflix did attempt to keep the intellectual property alive. Just as Season 4 bowed out, the streamer fast-tracked Freeridge, a spinoff focused on four high school girls (Gloria, Ines, Demi, and Cameron) who accidentally unleash a curse via a mysterious antique box. The show featured guest appearances from established secondary favorites, including Peggy Blow (reappearing in a clever role tied to Marisol) and Paula Garcés as Geny Martinez.
The spinoff struggled to replicate the original’s lightning-in-a-bottle dynamic. Where On My Block balanced gritty inner-city survival with absurd comedy, Freeridge leaned heavily into supernatural tropes that alienated segments of the original fanbase. Released on February 2, 2023, the spinoff failed to generate meaningful global viewing hours on Netflix’s public charts. By April 2023, Netflix officially axed the production, slamming the brakes on any shared-universe franchise plans.
