Sun Squad Beach Towel Review: Fabric Quality, Thickness, and Absorbency Test
Towel longevity often collapses during home laundering. Budget textiles routinely suffer from dropped hem threads, warped side seams, and drastic color loss caused by pool chlorine and repeated spin cycles. Over two weeks, we ran our test units through eight full wash cycles using standard detergent, warm water, and medium-heat dryer settings.
The good news centers on colorfastness and fading. The reactive dyes held firm throughout the washing regimen. The deep turquoise, coral, and canary yellow stripes retained their vivid punch without bleeding onto adjacent white stripes or test fabrics. Target’s suppliers clearly use solid dye setting techniques, making these towels visually resilient against standard wash routines.
Structural durability showed minor wear. By the fourth wash, the outer perimeter lock-stitching began tightening unevenly, causing the edges to curl inward by about half an inch. This hem distortion does not ruin the towel, but it prevents it from folding completely flat. We also noted minor thread pulls on the looped terry backing when washed alongside items with exposed metal zippers. To prevent snagging, wash these towels in standalone loads without abrasive garments.
