When the visible tableau runs out of legal maneuvers, turn to your reserve. Klondike rules diverge into two main operational styles: Turn-1 and Turn-3.

In Turn-1 play, you flip a single card from the stockpile into the waste pile. You can play this card immediately onto a tableau column or directly up to an eligible foundation pile. If you cannot play it, flip another single card on top of it. In Turn-3 play, you draw three cards together, placing them face up on the waste pile with only the third card fully exposed and playable. Once you play that third card, the second card becomes active. This system demands far greater strategic discipline because unplayed cards remain trapped under later draws.

When the stockpile runs dry, pick up the waste pile without shuffling it, turn it face down, and set it back on the stock spot. In strict patience card game rules, you are allowed either three passes through the deck or zero redeals depending on the variant you choose before starting.
