Spotting Snape: Trailer Breakdown, New Collectibles, and the Iconic Look Revisited
By Sarah Jenkins
The stark visual terror of Snape makes the reality of the set all the more striking. During a retrospective interview in mid-September 2026, Gary Oldman, who spent years playing Sirius Black opposite Rickman, shed light on the stark contrast between the Potions Master and the actor portraying him. As reported by SYFY, Oldman recalled how Rickman’s menacing aura vanished the instant director David Yates yelled cut.
Rickman was notorious on set for deadpan practical jokes, slipping chocolates to child actors, and chuckling under his breath during solemn table reads. His real demeanor was deeply generous, patient, and collegial, completely contrary to the intimidating, acid-tongued wizard he embodied on camera. Oldman emphasized that this off-camera warmth actually protected younger cast members from becoming genuinely terrified during emotionally charged scenes in the potions dungeon.
