Sofia the First Complete Soundtrack Lyrics Guide: Themes, Duets, and Chords
By David Miller
The soundtrack balanced its courtly arrangements with contemporary show-tune humor. Much of this energy came through Wayne Brady, who voiced Sofia's cynical, snack-obsessed rabbit familiar, Clover.
In "Blue Ribbon Bunny," Brady brought rhythmic jazz swing directly into the royal menagerie. The lyrics showcase Clover's reluctant entry into the village pet contest:
"I'm a blue ribbon bunny, hop-hopping along
Gotta give 'em something funny, gotta sing 'em a song
I got the twitch in my nose, I got the fluff in my tail
When I hit that stage, man, I never fail!"
Brady’s improvisational background informed the phrasing. Rather than strictly sticking to the printed sheet music, his performances incorporated scatting, vocal syncopation, and comedic breath control. These numbers gave parents listening alongside their children a welcome reprieve from sugary nursery rhymes.
