Skyrim Fortify Enchanting Potion Recipe: Verified Ingredients and Stats
The community frequently discusses an alternative path: the infamous restoration loop exploit. This mechanism exists because the game's engine categorizes all apparel-based enchantments as passive sub-effects under the school of Restoration. Consequently, drinking a Fortify Restoration potion amplifies the magnitude of currently worn enchanted apparel.
The loop requires salt pile and either Abecean longfin, Cyrodilic spadytail, or small antlers. When a player drinks a Fortify Restoration potion, removes their Fortify Alchemy gear, and immediately re-equips it, the gear recalculates its values against the active Restoration buff. Each iteration multiplies the gear strength geometrically rather than additively.
Within four or five iterations, apparel values skyrocket into hundreds of thousands of percentage points. Brewing a Fortify Enchanting potion while under these inflated numbers produces draughts that enhance enchantments by tens of thousands of percent. While entertaining, pushing this loop past five cycles risks engine instability. Hitting a 32-bit signed integer cap (2,147,483,647) turns numbers negative, wiping enchantments clean or causing immediate desktop crashes. Furthermore, the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP) disables this interaction entirely by reclassifying enchantment tags.
