Q1: Why did HBO choose Paapa Essiedu instead of Adam Driver for Severus Snape?
A1: Warner Bros. Discovery enforced a strict British and Irish casting policy for the series, automatically ruling out American actor Adam Driver. Essiedu was selected due to his award-winning classical stage background with the Royal Shakespeare Company and his ability to match Snape’s actual chronological age in the early books.

Q2: Is HBO planning to recast the character following the fan backlash?
A2: No. HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery have reaffirmed their commitment to Paapa Essiedu. Reports circulating on unverified social feeds suggesting a secondary recast are unfounded rumors without studio backing.

Q3: How old is Severus Snape supposed to be when the story begins?
A3: In the novels, Severus Snape was born in January 1960, making him 31 years old when Harry Potter first arrives at Hogwarts in 1991. Paapa Essiedu, cast at age 35, aligns closely with the original literary timeline.
