Niki Profile and Bio: Real Age, Birthdate, and Her Musical Evolution
In 2017, at the age of 18, Zefanya made the high-stakes decision to leave Indonesia for the United States, enrolling at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, to study music. The move was meant to be an academic path toward professional songwriting, but the digital ecosystem accelerated her timeline. Rich Brian, a fellow Indonesian artist already breaking boundaries in the United States, came across her self-produced tracks online and forwarded them to Sean Miyashiro, founder of the hybrid media company and label 88rising.
Miyashiro recognized her melodic instincts immediately. Within months of arriving in Nashville, Zefanya dropped out of university, signed with 88rising, and relocated to Los Angeles. In May 2018, at age 19, she issued her breakthrough EP, Zephyr, featuring tracks like "Vintage" and "Newsflash!" that married classic late-90s R&B syncopation with razor-sharp modern feminist wit.
The signing positioned her as the first prominent female artist on the 88rising roster, placing her front and center at the company's flagship Head in the Clouds festival in Los Angeles. Critics noted that while her male peers leaned into internet trap and hip-hop theatrics, NIKI anchored the label with vocal agility, traditional song structure, and uncompromising emotional clarity.
