Modesto Bee Obits Tracker: This Week's Memorial Services and Alumni Tributes

Placing a memorial notice requires careful attention to newspaper deadlines and rate tiers. McClatchy sets paid obituary pricing by line length, photo count, and chosen run days. A standard text-only notice running for two print days typically starts around $250, $350. Longer tributes with color photographs, full survivor listings, and custom verse can easily exceed $750, $1,200 depending on length.

Franklin & Downs Funeral Homes, alongside providers in Ceres and Turlock, generally assist families with submissions directly through their internal administrative consoles. They verify that the deceased’s vital details match official state death registrations before transmission. This step stops online scrapers from fabricating false memorial notices, an issue affecting grieving families across California in recent years.

Deadlines are strict. For a weekend print run, mortuaries usually submit copy by 1:00 PM Thursday. Missing that cutoff pushes publication into the middle of the following week, which risks services occurring before relatives read the printed announcement.
