Mitsuri's Official Profile Breakdown: Databook Stats, Birthday, and True Age Explained
By Robert Thorne
Mitsuri's backstory highlights historical social dynamics rarely explored in shonen manga. At 17 years old, she entered an arranged marriage meeting (an omiai), standard practice for young women during Japan's Taisho period. Her prospective suitor called off the arrangement, insulting her natural pink-and-green hair and expressing revulsion at her immense appetite.
The rejection devastated her. Mitsuri Kanroji's parents and family were loving, supportive figures, an absolute anomaly in a series where almost every demon slayer is motivated by dead relatives. Despite their acceptance, Mitsuri felt enormous guilt. She dyed her hair black, starved herself, and played the part of a fragile maiden just to secure another prospective marriage proposal at age 18. The charade crushed her spirit. She abandoned societal expectations and sought out the Demon Slayer Corps, explicitly hunting for a husband who was stronger than her so she could be authentically herself.
