Minecraft's Next Update Expands Stair Crafting: from Early Survival to the Dappled Forest
Stair blocks change their geometry dynamically when placed adjacent to other stairs. This behavior allows for seamless L-shaped landings, wrapped building corners, and dynamic roof designs without leaving ugly gaps in the frame.
To create an outer corner, place two stair blocks perpendicular to each other so their backs meet at a 90-degree angle. The engine automatically connects them, generating an L-shaped corner block with a single outer step. To create an inner corner, align the stairs so the back of one step runs directly into the side of another. The game automatically carves out a recessed pocket, forming an enclosed wrap.
Outer Corner Connection:
[ Step Faces South ] ──► Meets ◄── [ Step Faces East ]
Result: The block auto-adjusts into an exterior 90° wrap.
Inner Corner Connection:
[ Ascending Run ] ──► Intersects side face of adjacent stair
Result: The junction auto-carves an inverted interior turn.
In Minecraft Bedrock building, parity fixes deployed across Preview 26.40.27 resolved longstanding input desyncs when placing corner steps at high movement speeds. Players constructing fast defensive stair runs or wrapping fortress bastions can place corner blocks without seeing them unexpectedly snap back to straight geometry.
