Melissa Crystal O'Neil entered the world on July 12, 1988, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 2026, she is 37 years old, celebrating her 38th birthday in mid-July. Long before Hollywood agents noticed her, she grew up in western Canada attending Lester B. Pearson High School, dividing her adolescent energy between musical theater productions and varsity sports.
Her family history forms a foundational part of her public identity. O'Neil's mother, Alison Yeung, is an immigrant from Hong Kong, while her father, Tim O'Neil, is of Irish descent. Her maternal grandfather gave her the Chinese name Oh Seeman (奧詩曼). O'Neil frequently credits this dual heritage with broadening her perspective early in life, giving her a grounded identity during her rapid rise to national visibility in Canada.
