The transition from Broadway to screen acting happened rapidly. In 2015, Syfy and Space cast O'Neil as Portia Lin, known simply as "Two," in the science-fiction series Dark Matter. Over three seasons and 39 episodes, she proved herself as an action lead, performing complex fight choreography while guiding the narrative arc of a genetically engineered mercenary.
When Dark Matter concluded in 2017, television executives recognized her screen presence. In 2018, showrunner Alexi Hawley cast O'Neil opposite Nathan Fillion in ABC's crime procedural The Rookie. Playing Officer Lucy Chen, O'Neil evolved from a rookie cop trying to survive the Los Angeles Police Department into an undercover operative and detective.
Her on-screen dynamic with co-star Eric Winter (Sergeant Tim Bradford) ignited the widely followed "Chenford" romance, generating substantial engagement across TikTok and Reddit. Her collaborative rapport with lead producer and co-star Nathan Fillion helped establish The Rookie as an international syndication heavyweight.
