The Shinjuku Showdown arc presented the grimmest outlook for Megumi’s survival. During Sukuna’s duel with Gojo, the villain forced Megumi’s soul to shoulder the burden of Gojo's Unlimited Void. Megumi's spirit absorbed the brain-frying conceptual weight of infinite information multiple times. When Yuta Okkotsu and Yuji finally created an opening to strike inside the domain, Yuji initiated contact with Megumi's inner self.
The initial rescue failed catastrophically. Yuji pleaded for him to take back control, but Megumi simply answered: "I've had enough." The psychological wall appeared impenetrable. However, through relentless soul-dismantle strikes and Yuji Itadori soul resonance, Yuji whittled away at the barrier pinning the two spirits together.
In the final sequence of the Jujutsu Kaisen final battle, Yuji’s refusal to give up penetrated Megumi's numbness. Megumi manifested a puddle of shadow beneath Sukuna's footing, destabilizing the tyrant at the exact microsecond Yuji delivered his decisive blow. That solitary, conscious act proved Megumi was still there, tipping the scales of the war.
