Mapping the Haitian Diaspora: Key Us Regions Where Populations Are Concentrated
Outside Florida, the Northeast corridor forms the second major axis on the national map. New York City holds an estimated 190,000 Haitian-Americans, concentrated heavily in Central Brooklyn and Southeast Queens. Neighborhoods such as Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Crown Heights developed deep-rooted institutions, including the Haitian American Day Parade and Creole bilingual education programs in public schools. Suburban migration has expanded populations in Long Island’s Nassau County and Rockland County to the north.
Massachusetts hosts the third-largest concentration in the country, anchored by Greater Boston. Communities in Mattapan, Dorchester, and the city of Brockton house multi-generational Haitian populations supported by healthcare networks, higher education institutions, and municipal public service roles. State-level demographic trackers show Brockton with one of the highest per-capita Haitian populations of any American city outside Florida, maintaining direct economic links back to Haiti's southern peninsula.
