Public updates regarding David's life have been exceptionally rare. The only credible insights came directly from Lionel Dahmer and his second wife, Shari Dahmer, during occasional television interviews where they fiercely protected his new identity.
In a 2004 interview on CNN's Larry King Live, Lionel and Shari provided the final direct public update on David's circumstances. When Larry King asked about the younger son, Shari explained that David had successfully reinvented his life under an entirely different name. She noted that he had built a stable career, was happily married, and was expecting his second child at the time of the broadcast.
Lionel affirmed that David's decision to sever ties was complete and irreversible. David did not visit Jeffrey at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, nor did he attend his brother's funeral services after inmate Christopher Scarver bludgeoned Jeffrey to death in November 1994. Lionel and Shari respected David's boundaries, refusing to hint at his geographic location, his profession, or his chosen surname.
