Mike Ilitch founded Little Caesars alongside his wife, Marian, in 1959, but his four years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps shaped the company's internal culture for decades. In 2006, Ilitch launched the Little Caesars Veterans Program after hearing the story of an Army staff sergeant who lost both legs while serving in Iraq. Rather than limiting the effort to a one-time charity check, the company structured a formal franchise pipeline designed to lower barriers for returning military personnel.

Under the initiative, honorably discharged veterans receive substantial financial breaks to open their own stores. These perks include a $20,000 reduction on the initial franchise fee, equipment financing discounts, and marketing credits valued at up to $10,000. For service-disabled veterans, the initial fee is completely waived, alongside a $10,000 grant toward store opening expenses. Over its 19-year run, the program has helped hundreds of veterans transition into business ownership, creating an internal network of veteran-operated stores that champion the annual November giveaway.
