Launch's Hidden Cameos: Visual Proof of Her Secret Appearances Across Dragon Ball Z
By Robert Thorne
Q1: Did Akira Toriyama really forget Launch completely?
A1: Not permanently. Toriyama admitted in early 2000s interviews that her character slipped from his active planning during the transition to the Saiyan Saga. When he realized her absence, he deliberately kept her away to prevent her blonde form from interfering with the visual introduction of the Super Saiyan transformation on Namek.
Q2: Why does Launch only appear in filler during the Saiyan Saga?
A2: Toriyama wrote only one brief line of dialogue explaining her departure in the manga. Toei Animation needed material to pad out the television broadcast schedule, so their scriptwriters created standalone filler scenes showing her drinking in bars, tracking Tien, and crying over his battlefield demise.
Q3: Is Launch canon to modern Dragon Ball Super?
A3: Launch remains an established canonical character in the official franchise history. While she does not make physical appearances in Dragon Ball Super, her status as Goku's early companion and her Buu Saga cameo remain cemented in the official timeline.
