Kid Named Pubert Explained: Meaning, Origins, and Top Questions Answered
By Elena Rostova
The Addams canon is famously flexible. Because the franchise shifts between satirical cartoons, live-action features, animated reboots, and serialized television, characters appear and vanish without rigid continuity.
In the 1998 direct-to-video film Addams Family Reunion, Pubert was omitted entirely. The 2019 and 2021 animated features from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer chose to keep the central family unit stripped down to Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and Thing.
In Netflix's current live-action universe, the creative team has kept the focus centered on Wednesday's boarding school dynamics at Nevermore Academy. While Pugsley makes recurring appearances, Pubert remains absent from the roster. Writers have dropped occasional background easter eggs acknowledging his existence, keeping dedicated lore trackers satisfied without cluttering the main storyline.
Pubert exists as a unique cultural time capsule: the child of a specific, daring 1990s studio comedy that pushed boundaries without losing its heart.
