Is Tiktok Collecting More Data Than Ever? Fact-Checking the Latest Privacy Policy Outrage
By Chloe Bennett
Q1: Does TikTok log my keystrokes when I type inside other apps?
A1: No. Mobile operating systems on iOS and Android run apps in isolated sandboxes. TikTok cannot see what you type in banking apps, messages, or text files on your device.
Q2: Why does the privacy policy state it collects keystroke rhythms?
A2: Keystroke cadence, the tempo and rhythm of how you tap, is used as a biometric behavioral signal to identify automated bot networks and prevent fraudulent engagement within the app.
Q3: Can TikTok track my purchases made on external shopping sites?
A3: Yes, if the retailer embeds the TikTok Pixel code on their website, or if you complete the purchase inside TikTok's built-in in-app browser instead of an independent web browser.
