Is 'Friday 4' Actually Happening? Fact-Checking Nia Long's Big Updates
By Robert Thorne
Did Nia Long officially sign a contract for Friday 4?
No. Long confirmed that she and Ice Cube have engaged in serious discussions and that she remains open to returning as Debra, but no formal contract has been executed with Warner Bros. or New Line Cinema.
Why has Last Friday taken more than a decade to make?
The delay stems primarily from creative differences and rights disputes between Ice Cube and New Line Cinema (Warner Bros. Discovery). Ice Cube wrote multiple drafts that the studio shelved, while the studio declined to relinquish the intellectual property rights to him.
Will Chris Tucker appear as Smokey alongside Nia Long?
It is extremely unlikely. Chris Tucker has consistently maintained over the past two decades that he will not reprise the role of Smokey due to personal and religious considerations, regardless of casting updates from other original actors.
