Is Demus Breaking Spotify Terms? Why Your Playlists Won't Import and How to Fix It
Demus does not stream audio from Spotify. It cannot do so because Spotify encrypts its audio catalog behind proprietary Digital Rights Management (DRM). When you paste a link into the Demus app, you are not importing audio files; you are asking the app to parse a public tracklist, extract song titles and artist names, and find matching audio streams hosted on YouTube or SoundCloud.
This design presents immediate vulnerabilities. When a user experiences a Spotify playlist import error, the breakdown typically occurs during the initial handshake. If Demus cannot query Spotify's public endpoint to retrieve the track array, the matching engine never starts.
The app depends on rapid, unauthenticated or lightweight API queries. If Spotify modifies its response payloads or blocks the incoming IP range used by Demus proxy servers, the parsing routine crashes. Users see a spinning sync icon, followed by an empty library or a generic network timeout message.
