Modern setups use linear T5 high-output fluorescent tubes (rated at 5.0 or 10.0 / 6% or 12%) mounted inside a reflector hood. UVB rays cannot penetrate standard glass or acrylic; the fixture must point unobstructed through open air or wide wire mesh.
