Inside Malika Andrews' Family Album: Rare Photos and the Inspiring Story of Mom Paula Andrews
By Chloe Bennett
Producing one elite national sports reporter is rare. Raising two sisters who cover the same professional league for the same network is statistically improbable. Paula Andrews achieved this without pitting her children against one another.
When Kendra pursued sports journalism at Gonzaga University, Paula was careful not to frame her as the second chapter to Malika’s story. Kendra developed her own beat reporting style covering the Denver Nuggets for The Athletic before ESPN recruited her in 2022 to cover the Golden State Warriors.
Paula’s teaching background played a crucial role here. In classrooms, success is not a zero-sum game, and she applied that view at home. When the sisters covered the 2022 Western Conference Finals simultaneously, Paula maintained equal support, refusing to favor either assignment. That emotional security prevented professional competition from damaging the sisters' relationship.
